Alex Whalley is faculty lead for the Analytics of Prosperity theme within the UC Merced Blum Center. As an associate professor of economics in the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts, his research focuses on the economics of the public sector. Dr. Whalley has studied the role of political institutions in policymaking, the effects of universities on regional growth, and the effects of urban mass transit on air quality.
