Robotics Online Program

University of California, Merced

Our middle school computer science and robotics program is going online!
Join the fun and learn about programming, robots and drones from UC Merced Computer Science and Engineering students.

About

NexTech is an introduction to computer science and robotics program for middle schooler students. The introductory course covers programming and coding, web design and robotics. No prior experience is needed.

By joining the google classroom, students interact with each other and two UC Merced students to practice coding and programming online robots. Students will learn about principles of engineering design, problem solving and critical thinking. They will explore robotics, including teleoperated and autonomous movement, sensor integration, and coding optimization to create environment-aware robots.

NexTech Robotics Online Syllabus

Karishma Singh, UC Merced Computer Science and Engineering class of 2019, builds a VexIQ robot in preparation for teaching.

With the growing societal need to enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) instruction in classrooms and beyond, there is a call for integrated learning programs that allow teachers to engage students meaningfully in STEM, especially at the elementary and middle school levels. With that in mind, we have developed the VEX IQ Curriculum as a companion to the VEX IQ platform for elementary and middle school students. Given that the after-school and in-class program has been moved online, we are now programming robots using online simulators.
